HI! My name is Lily Lai, and this is my company, the Blind Palomino. I make beautiful hand crafted jewelry out of all kinds of natural beads, as well as (my favorite) Swarovski crystal beads.
I am also a horse fanatic- I grew up around them, but was always too shy and scared to ride. So I did what every other horse-crazy little girl does, I played with horse toys, drew horses and pretended I was a horse (I know I wasn't the only one!). When I grew up ,I moved to New Mexico with my husband and started taking riding lessons through the University. I fell in love again, but this time, I wasn't so shy and scared. I began to ride and have a wonderful time. Pretty soon things progressed and I ended up buying my first horse, Yeller.
Yeller came from the livestock auction in Belen, NM, where my riding instructor, Rose, had found him. He was in pretty bad shape at the time. His left eye was terribly infected from a cut on his cornea, he was skinny, and no one had been taking care of his feet. Rose saw something in him that day, though. THANK YOU ROSE!! After a few weeks of doctoring his eye, a trim and some good hay, he was a new horse. I am a very firm believer that animals know when they have been saved, whether it be from the auction or from the shelter. If you have ever adopted an animal like this, you know what I am talking about. Yeller is blind in his left eye, we don't know for sure how or when this happened, but he is in no way bothered by his "disability".
Yeller lives on Rose's ten acre ranch in Belen running free with his other friends from the sale barn. They all take pride in their jobs at the ranch, which is teaching beginners how to ride through Rose's UNM Continuing Education classes.
In May of 2007, Yeller was officially registered with the Palomino Horse Association, he had no previous registration before that, so we are very proud of him. So that makes him the OFFICIAL Blind Palomino mascot!!
